What does peptide therapy mean?

Amino acids joined in a short chain form a peptide. Amino acids are the small parts used to build proteins. Insulin is a peptide medicine.

Ask for the actual medicine

Peptide therapy is a broad label. It does not name a single treatment. The exact drug and the intended use matter more.

  • Ask for the generic name: the medicine’s name rather than a business’s package name.
  • Ask whether the plan treats a health problem that has been identified, or aims to help you feel better in general.
  • Ask what other ways of addressing that problem are available.

Separate the product types

In the U.S., medicines are reviewed for particular uses by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

  • The record from September 26, 2026 lists approved semaglutide products (Ozempic, Wegovy) and approved tirzepatide products (Mounjaro, Zepbound).
  • Compounding means making a medicine to order. FDA review does not happen for each compounded product before it is marketed.
  • Research-labelled products sold for human use are a separate issue. FDA warns against using them: their quality has not been established, and they may harm people.

Make the visit about your question

If an advert brought you here, save its wording. Show it to the person treating you. Ask which studies support what the advert says.

  • Is this the same product that was studied?
  • Were the studies in people with a problem like mine?
  • What result would count as a useful change for me?
